Donate to Support Tapir Research

We are accepting donations at any level because every little bit helps! Refer to the table below to see how different donations can be used to help research.

Donation Level What it Buys How it Helps
$10 One dart One dart for tranquilizing a tapir so that the animal's radio collar can be adjusted.
$25 Bananas for a month Bananas are a tapir's favorite food! We treat the tapirs to bananas whenever we need to get close to study them.
$50 Feed researchers for a day The researchers need food too! There is no store within dozens of miles of the research station, so all the food for the 2-3 researchers needs to be bought in bulk and brought in by boat.
$75 Tapir exclosure We use exclosures to keep the tapirs out of small areas so they do not affect the plant life. Then we can compare the plants inside the exclosure and in the nearby jungle to see how the tapirs are contributing to the environment.
$100 Plant (tapir food) identification We observe what the tapirs are eating so that we better know the exact nutrition they are getting in the wild to help with the nutrition in captivity. Captive nutrition has several benefits: overall health, increased reproductive rate. There are also several nutrition induced diseases that can be prevented with increased nutrition.
$200 Telemetry antenna We use telemetry antennas to find the tapirs in the dense jungle. This allows us to track their dispersal and territorial behavior, and also to find them for radio collar adjustments.
$500 Herbivore reinforcement The herbivore reinforced collars are a special design so that tapirs can submerge themselves under the water. Other collars get waterlogged and short out if we do not reinforce them.
$6000 One GPS collar Each new GPS collar costs $6000. These high-tech devices will let us track the tapirs remotely, without the need for radio antennas. In fact, we do not even need to be in Costa Rica--we can monitor the GPS signals from the United States.
$Any Any amount Every donation helps immensely! Any amount you can give will go directly towards the research and conservation of tapirs and their ecosystem.
