Options as a Docent
Volunteer during the week as a Tour Educator or on the weekends as an Interpretive Educator or a combination of both - it's up to you.
Requirements & Application Process
Volunteers from all walks of life, ages 21 and over, are accepted and encouraged to apply. Over the past 50+ years, you may have noticed volunteers in green polos educating guests, helping with enrichment or leading tours around CMZoo. This wonderful group is our docents, who volunteer their time to help inspire kids of all ages to care about wildlife and the natural world! We encourage you to apply to join this dedicated team of advocates for wildlife and wild places.
Training Classes:
– Class size is limited.
– Training Class time: January – March, all day on Saturdays.
– Complete your application, then follow instructions to sign-up for training.

About the Docents
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary (CMZA) was formed in 1969 as a non-profit organization to give aid in carrying out the Zoo’s objectives. It is an active and founding member of the international Association of Zoo and Aquarium Docents & Volunteers (AZADV).
Objectives:
- To support the Zoo in providing a major zoological park for residents and visitors of the Pikes Peak region.
- To assist the Zoo in providing recreational, educational, conservation and scientific facilities in the fields of natural history, zoology and related subjects.
- To aid the Zoo’s education program by providing docent guide service for school groups and related organizations, and providing liaison with other educational institutions.
- To work with the Zoo staff toward increased utilization of the zoological park and its facilities.
