Tapirs of the World

There are four species of tapirs in the world, all of which are endangered under the IUCN Red list.

Baird's tapir

Baird's tapir (Tapirus bairdii) extend from Southern Mexico all the way down to the Pacific coast of Northern Ecuador.

Mountain tapir

Mountain tapir (Tapirus pinchaque) are in the Northern part of the Rockies of South America.

Lowland (Brazilian) tapir

Lowland tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) exist in the Lowland South America.

Malayan tapir

Malayan tapirs (Tapirus indicus) exist in Southeast Asia.
